Hide and seek!

Last week i bought myself a video camera planning to make a few short videos on fish rising and hopefully a few other catching fish on the dries and nymphs.

For the last few days ive been walking the banks looking for big fish rising and i finally found what i was looking 🙂 check out the video below and see this beast taking brookduns one after anther

After taking the video above watching this fine large brown trout feeding i turned the camera off and made my way to the spot where the fish was. The rod wasnt even set up so that was done in no time still watching the trout rising, but when it came to leader and tipped extra care was taken with trying the knots! didn’t want to hook it and have  knot slip or anything so it was ll down to me to get the cast right and to land the fish,, Well i manged to get the right cast and the trout took the fly sweet as a nut and what a ride it took me on.  after a while the trout come to the net  i made anther short video just before release,, cracking fish and what a lovely wild fish it was 🙂

video of the fish landed just before release 🙂 Hog!

On the trout’s menu right now!

Well  at the moment the large dark olives are on the trout menu because that’s all that’s bloody hatching at the moment with these wild winds and mad cold weather that has stuck with us. Please give us a break and move on winter weather, its spring for god sake!

The hatches have been starting around half 12 and going on for an hour to an hour and half at most, so be ready because it’s over before you now it!

These are  patterns that ive been using for the last few weeks on the river and they have been very successful.

Taff Diaries on Fishtec!

Over the last few months i’ve been using almost exclusively Airflo fly fishing tackle and there are a few reasons for this…

I’ve always used ‘cheap fishing tackle’ and ended up buying more than once, something which is said time and time again between anglers and is true buying of products these days. The kit i’ve been shown by Kieron is great stuff, great build quality and preforms to the max. Most of the fly fishing tackle I’ve had is ideal for what I want and is just as good as anything I’ve seen by other, more expensive fishing tackle dealers.

I’ve now become part of their bloggers scheme where I received an email this morning describing that I’ve been lucky enough to have my blog featured under Fishtecs most favourite! Happy days 😀

Treating myself

Well this was long over due and I should have done it months ago, I was in desperate need of a new set of waders as two of my old pairs had really given up the ghost. Many patches were bought and a couple of tubs of aquasure but I was told once you start to repair them, their never ever the same.

I decide to go for the Airflo Delta Stocking foot waders after reading all the feefo reviews on the Fishtec website site. I always take first hand information to heart and I knew a couple of anglers who own a pair of these too. Each person was happy with their choice and just one had a problem when they first had them, but a quick call to Fishtec customer services and this was quickly rectified.

I haven’t had a new pair of chest waders in a long time so I was looking forward to rambling about the river and not having wet feet for a change. I opted for the Delta waders as they also came with a pair of free wading boots. I won’t be using these for a while but when my current boots die these will be my go to boots.

Whilst I was on the website I was browsing around the clothing section and looking at what I need for the coming year, you can’t take it with you after all! I decided to go for a new fishing garment as my chest pack was becoming cluttered and just too small for my needs.

I’ve never really been into wearing a vest whilst fishing as I’m a chest pack kind of guy, but after fishing with Kieron Jenkins for the day and trying on the Airflo Outlander Mesh Vest I just had to have one!  A lovely light mesh design with multiple inner and outer pockets everything is to hand and no digging about in flaps or deep pockets looking for my gink or leader straightener .

My chest pack seemed as if it was weighting me down, it was like I had a house brick tied around my neck, It didn’t help that it was so full ofcourse but after swapping all my gear to the new Airflo Mesh Vest it was like I had nothing on. The pockets are all tucked up out of the way keeping fly boxes and nylon dry it also features a mesh back so it allows my body to breath whilst walking long distances.

Well here it is! Airflo Hydrotec Softshell Jacket Review

So, I’ve been wearing the Airflo Hydrotec Softshell Fleece for over a month now both to work and whilst out fishing. Trying everything humanly possible to get the best out of it I can. Quite frankly, I can’t fault it.

From the second I opened the jacket I could tell it oses quality. The first thing you notice is the dual colour Soft-shell MemBrain. with the gray shoulders and black body and underarms It certainly looks the part! I like the ‘shower-proof’ capabilities of the jacket as throughout the Spring and Autumn a coat can be an unnecessary addition to you fishing gear. But with this, it keeps you dry and warm. Being able to wear a jacket both fishing and ‘out and about’ is a big plus for me as I get used to wearing some things.

The comfortability it offers me when out walking and/or fishing is second to none with the Mambrain seeming to mould to my casting style and shape.

After putting the jacket on for the first time you definitely see the advantages over others. It’s spacious enough to have a few layers underneath just for that little extra protection from the cold. The cord around the base of the jacket allows you to tighten around your waist to stop any draught and the Velcro straps at he cuffs makes it easy to stop water and wind creeping its way down your arm when casting or handling fish. Something I’d like to do more often.

It seems as if the guys at airflo have thought of every possible way wind could break the barrier. The pockets are sealed with a watertight zip which only under the submersion of water will lapse.

The built in hood with draw strings is a great addition to the jacket, allowing you total protection from the elements. Or from any nagging fishermen you happen to come across. The front of the hood has enough coverage to completely cover the peak of my hat.

The Fast wicking properties of the jacket allows it to dry 3/4 times quicker than other fabrics such as cotton, making it a gem to be out in a shower with. We all know how quick the conditions can change!

To purchase the jacket it will only set you back £50 – Which for a quality piece of kit, isn’t a lot! You could pay 4/5 times more for a name such as Simms.

Overall, I think the jacket is a great addition to my fishing gear and will allow me to get out in the harshest of conditions when others can’t. I am very please with this jacket and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone looking for a top layer.
